Born in Warrington England, Suzanne immigrated to Canada at the age of 7 with her parents and two older brothers.
Suzanne always wanted to become a Canadian citizen but life always seemed to get in the way. Finally becoming a citizen last year along with her good friend Arun and her Mum by her side she feels very proud to call herself a new and true Canadian.
Suzanne always had a love for playing and messing around with hair and at the age of 16, she enrolled on a one-year program at the Abbotsford school of hair then followed up with a two-year apprenticeship program finally obtaining her red and blue seal. “Not everyone can say they have that today as the industry has really changed….its pretty easy to try and learn the trade on youtube these days….so I feel really fortunate to have had the official and professional opportunity when I did that’s for sure!”
Over the next ten years, Suzanne worked doing mostly lady’s hair then transitioned over to the barbering industry 27 years ago. She trained under two red sealed barbers only to discover that cutting men’s hair was definitely her niche…..”I love the simplicity of it….and I love the conversations, it’s so interesting to hear all of the stories from way back in Osoyoos….its very easy to truly bond with the clients. I’ve had many clients who sadly were dying ask if I would come to their home or hospital to cut their hair. It’s an honor that my clients feel that close to me.”
Suzanne came to Osoyoos in 1998 then moved on to Calgary, Quesnel, and finally, come back to Osoyoos in 2012.
Dirty Hairy’s Barbering was opened in March of 2012 & Suzanne bought her home in August of 2013.
As 2020 came, so did Covid19. “Covid19 shifted my mind, after 9 years on Main Street I decided to relocate the barbershop to my property. I honestly feel it is a really positive move for me”….”I’ve secured a location for myself plus I can offer a more personalized and relaxed experience for my clients including many new clients googling the business”….”it just feels right and really good.”
Now offering short simple yet precise haircuts for women at the same price point as the men’s. This allows me to enjoy being creative but yet keeping things simple for me to focus 100% of my skills as a barber and stylist.
Offering a 400 sqft patio allows a peaceful tranquil and relaxing experience to people who arrive a little early to their appointments who crave conversation in a social distancing setting. “It’s a different world for sure but I guess I just have to adjust adapt and grow from it.”
Suzanne offers a super clean, safe, and comfortable environment for the clients. After every client, every surface and object are sanitized. Capes are sanitized daily….. clippers/cords, blades, scissors, chairs, and all high touch areas are constantly sanitized.
“The job was tough before but you just do what you have to do to keep everyone safe and stay safe!”
I look forward to many more years of looking after my client’s hair needs and many more wonderful experiences to come.
